Cravatte of French infantry 1854-1919

Hello, this is my first purchase of equipment for the Crimean ! The infantryman's tie!

Regulation describes only one section of the neck, the neck black satin Turk. Excluding the latter is more likely than full dress, and the instructions defined for the Crimean campaign specify it's tie color dark blue sky (another variation of blue in the French military vocabulary!) which is being taken. This one is restricted until 1860.

It is "calico", 1.50 m long, 42 cm. Hemmed on three sides.
It fits around the neck as follows:

"The tie neck and back cover attached to a knot whose parts are hidden under his coat."

In terms of dimensions, the one I found is good but only 1.50 meters (!) 20 cm wide. Excluding these ties were largely intruded into two parts in the width, otherwise you have a real scarf around her neck! I happened to find ties 14-18 (the same one that interests us, they were all cut in the width!).
Other concerns, that is hemmed by machine, but it's first time I find a good indigo calico! I'll de-hem and redo hemmed by hand! A good occupation for my winter evenings!

Godillot boards.

Sources primary are not that many to go next to this one. What's better than the advertising boards of the most famous uniform supplier of the second empire?

Here are the boards representing effects military (or related to some ) Godillot sells the house in the years 1860-67. Besides the French army, Godillot provides many other countries! The order remains the most famous fighter held 10,000 feet provided to federal troops during the American War of Secession . The order includes complete outfits , hair in small equipment. (shako, leather, cap, jacket, baggy pants, water bottle, backpack, brushes, kits stitching ... etc..) outfit proved too small for major U.S., only a few regiments will be provided, including the 62 th , 82 th and 83 th voluntary Pennsylvania, 18 th Massachusetts, 49 th and 72 th New York .

back to our boards, here are some that will allow us to observe some effects of the rarest!

The first includes the equipment relating to tents, sardines all around, rolled chalk drawing in the center, half mast the tent shelter on the lower right of e mallet wood ( interesting to see how it looks!) and Matt Tent larger (large round tents?)

Here the new board s shows lighting elements, I do not know if they are used by the army or just for sale to civilians? There are still right in the middle of the box grease gun with the little brush gun.

With third board, we enter the heart of the matter. Here the elements used by the cavalry and mounted troops

This plate shows the equipment of the infantry, especially with the big drum in the mid to top right, the pot (left), two equipment we will have in one way or another! ( I mean the original or a copy of course!)

Harbour bag 1854.

equipment the soldier with all laid down on the bag small frame, sewing kit with the famous spool wooden box grease seen above with the brush, various brushes, the hammer, cap gun .... the models will remain in effect for some into the 40s see 80 (1980!)

Rent Artificial Cherry Blossom Trees

From reading books ..... a military soldier in the Crimea.

This morning I opened a military record of a soldier of the 15 ° line class 1855. And I found my article about tonight. This soldier to board on August 4 1855 for the Eastern Army, on the ship "Jupiter". He landed at Kamiesh, September 14.

So far nothing unusual, it is part of a regiment that took up the old regiments of the beginning of the season, he has not seen the last battles for Sevastopol.

Where things get interesting is in the part concerning the effects received. In the box on the first category (the clothes of uniform) it is stated, besides the usual hood jacket tunic, trousers police cap and shoulder, a flannel belt, an effect that is typical of special funds for Crimea or Africa.

Better yet, in the effects of second category (shako, leather equipment ...) is added to the pen

-bag camp: I have no idea what that might be?? a sleeping bag??
-cover: because there are already supplied I guess this is a second? Crimean-
: it is a modified hood and warmer, I'll try an article on the Crimean soon!
-Chéchia: evidenced by the photos of Fenton (see below) I think as a cap for winter camp?
Watch the second man in from the left! is a foot soldier for the fez!

-Leg Bulgarians large gaiters laced to the side and made sheep wool inside!
glove Knowing that the soldier has two pairs of white gloves, it should be of woolen gloves!
-Slippers: I have no idea what that might be?
-shoes: very convenient for the camp in winter, booties must go there I think!

Otherwise staffing small equipment more classical

-A pair of trouser suspenders they look like those of 14-18, and unconnected with two bands on either side of bright color (red, pink or blue)

-a-
shako covers a case of tunic (called "Case miles stripes" because of its blue stripes)
-two pairs of gloves (white cotton )
-a pair of leather gaiters
-ditto-canvas
a knapsack (writes on the book) with a book-belts

-two handkerchiefs-one
pompom (Shako)
-two pairs of shoes

small frame :
-1
cap gun
-loop-pants (???)

How Long Test Results For Gonorrhea

1860-67 .... The Army of the Second Empire by Henri Ortholan

Here is the latest reading on record, a very interresting book that summarizes everything you need to know about the French army of that time. Everything is there, Recruitment, oorganisation, number, description of each weapon and services ...... Indispensable for anyone who wants to know this army!

Regarding the reconstruction of the foot soldier in the Crimea, a very interresting about food:

"Rice is awarded only in wartime. Appeared in rations African army in 1838, the coffee and sugar * are distributed throughout the Army from 1848 ....... The ration of 1 kg of bread daily ....... ration of fresh meat ......... passes 250 grams of meat fresh or salt pork to 240 in 1859 then to 400 and 300g, respectively in 1870. "

yum yum! it feels like!

Picutres Of Californian Wax

Infantryman's coat and boots, 1870

Here are some pictures collected on sales sites, authentic objects of Foot in 1870.

First a pair of white spats, the model 1867, with two rows of buttons on foot in leather since 1865 (absent here).

And here is a superb collection hood cap for 1867 and e police visor 1867 ... 67 ° line. We note that the buttons no longer tops the slope of 1845 models, fashion change .... was almost figure of 1914!

Pains In My Foot When Ice Skating

The mystery of the Zouave's gourd ... .....

The greatest part of you know this famous photo of Fenton in the Crimea, representing two Zouaves, one giving his gourd in the second who sits!
All this is very conventional, regulatory outfits are .... except the famous gourd! She is visibly
round with a cord that is attached in both ears on the sides ....

Until recently I had never paid attention to this one! Off thanks to my specialist the second empire, Fabien, whom I thank, I can show you a copy of this gourd is now famous! Here it is:

The cap is clearly military, the gourd when her manufacturing civil boiled leather.

Ejaculation Thickness

Gaiter Leather infantryman Crimean

During the Crimean campaign, the leather gaiter is retained rather than white canvas. Indeed, it is reserved for spots and messy winter dress. From the perspective of a seat, it is better able to withstand the harsh climate and missions!

I have not found a vintage creation this one, all I can say is that it does not exist in 1828 in the settlement of General Hecquet, and what is mensionnée in 1845 clothing for hunters on foot!

here is a rare copy in mint condition that I have recovered. It is exactly as then, he never be distributed because of the gaiter is still tawny, natural color leather. At the time they are distributed and that color is the soldier who must fill in! and it must be time! Similarly, under the foot in leather is tied with leather string dun only one side, charged the soldier to tie his shoe on the other.

Manufacturing seems late for the Second Empire (1870-1875), because the eyelets are made of tin. Early models had brass eyelets!

It marked the 13 th battalion of infantry, undated, with the outer pad manufacturer Lyon. a 3 to black ink on the outside must be the size of a D pad and expert (which makes me say it dates from the third republic!)
