Day 23 (June 9): It's over!

Yes we are now at the airport Charles de Gaulle until our plane finally left for Montreal with 1 hour delay.

We (Luce and Michel) wish to sincerely thank our students for this wonderful adventure that we shared together. Each group member has contributed in its own way, to ensure that this trip was amazing and very rewarding. To end this blog, we wanted to make a nod to each of our students, in connection with what we experienced during the trip and will perhaps not make sense for you. For you to question these students.

Marie-Pier B. Vigneux said: "The Sweet Marie"
She is gentle in his actions as much as for the tone of his voice. If you want to be sure I hear it, make sure it has a toothbrush in his mouth!

Katherine Beaulieu said: "The Quiet"
Sometimes we thought he had forgotten it was so quiet. By cons, she was always available to participate in various activities.

Dominic Belanger said, "the end-to-train"
From the early hours of the morning, it was already laughing to tears. Thanks to him we were able to keep our line because it seems that laughter helps to digest!

Lea Chagnon said: "Tabarouette! "
If she could be cloned to be everywhere at once, she would. This funny little woman has allowed us to see in all colors. In her dreams, she is still trying to skirmish with David?

Gilbert Grenier said, "Kir Royal"
An outstanding driver and a calm extraordinary. This is a guy that fits all and not complicated. However, in terms of food, one will find only the "steak" and "sweet" on her plate.

David Lavergne said: "The Distracted"
Where are we going? What do we do? What time start? Here are the frequently asked questions despite very clear instructions. A guy always ready to service. Do not look for what David did: he eats or he feels tight with Leah!

Erika Lozeau said: "The Travel"
Super organized for his luggage, foresight, a girl who has the experience of travel. Not difficult for two cents. She liked to talk into the wee hours of the morning with his two comrades. She composed the trio infernal!

Auclair Xavier Mercier said: "admiration"
Better than yesterday but worse than tomorrow, summed up well! How many times have we heard the following remarks: the best food, the most beautiful city, the most beautiful castle, the best wine I have ever seen!

Letter For Asking Gift

Day 22 (Monday, 8 June2009): Last day in Paris and France

Today the group is a lie. Travel fatigue is beginning to be felt. In addition, this rainy Monday encourages us to stay in bed. So we leave at 11:00 to visit Paris last time. First stop, the Pont Alexandre III. It's time to take pictures!! Then we walk to the Champs Elysees where the rain makes the visit less enjoyable. The group then has a free period to do some shopping and dinner. Some take the opportunity to stop at the Disney store to buy some stuffed animals for their personal use (!!!) or to give as gifts.

Following this break, we come together under the Arc de Triomphe where we have a wonderful view: on one side of the Place de la Concorde and the other the Place de la Defense.

Unfortunately, it continues to rain, and this requires us to make the choice to visit places sheltered from bad weather. Katherine, Luke and Kim decide to visit the Paris Opera. Annie and Danielle decided to return at the hostel and compose their final day on the blog. The rest of the group decides to go for a stroll at Galeries Lafayette. We visit all seven floors of this mega mall! The architecture of this place, and especially the canopy, is truly remarkable. Tired, we stop at a restaurant to take: coffee, pastries and ice creams. Lea feels that the time drags on, leaving us to ... nowhere! We shall find later for our last meal in France.

The rest of the group decides to spin up to Montmartre to visit the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the cemetery where is the favorite singer of the princess and teases Lamothe, that is to say Dalida.

For now, the rain stopped, which allowed us to climb the stairs again to get to the basilica. Then we go to the Moulin Rouge, mythical and famous. Unfortunately, we lack the time to visit the Montmartre cemetery. Dalida will be in our heart and our thoughts, anyway!
We were all given an appointment at 19.30 the corner of St. Germain and Saint Michel for our last meal together. In heavy rain, we waited in vain Danielle and Annie ... Unfortunately, they could not join us, not knowing at that time, the restaurant's name. Dapple raclette and sausage, beef Bourguignon, chicken, all washed down with fine wines accompanied this last meal.
Finally this evening, we went to Trocadero Square, admiring one last time, in all its glory, the Eiffel Tower illuminated. Thank

Paris, the rain had stopped!

Day 21, June 7, 2009: Free day

Since the day was free, the group split into several subgroups. We were 6 to visit the Catacombs (Annie, Danielle, Kim, Katherine, Luke and Marie-Pier). First, the tour begins with a descent into an endless spiral staircase, dark and narrow, to reach a sign telling us that we had a distance of 500 meters to go before reaching the Cemetery of the Innocents. The road is under the city in a long tunnel carved into the stone by construction workers in 1777. It must not be claustrophobic to go there because the output is far, it's dark and damp, and the place gives goosebumps. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and there are between 6 and 7 million bones arranged in different phyla. It is quite impressive to see how the bones are presented. Each cemetery has its location, sign and year of arrival in the catacombs and we think that works of art made with the bones are in good taste.
Subsequently, the small band broke, we (Annie and Danielle) went to visit the small shops on the edge of the Seine. What surprised us most is the pet. Did you know you can buy in the middle of Paris, chickens, ducks and pigeons? We, we did not know. Also, question to $ 100 for Quebecers: Who among you has never been offered a free kitten? Well, I do not think this is money running in Paris since the kittens cheapest we've found are at 420 € each, and they look strangely like our cats! So you can imagine the price of a cat or a Persian Himalayan!

Then all those emotions we have an appetite and filled with happiness, we found a Pizza Hut! We arrive just in time for the buffet. In France, there are 8 different kinds of pizza and contains none of pepperoni! After conducting a sampling of each kind, and sensory evaluation of each (they were all tasted!) We agreed that our favorite pizza is the BBQ (BBQ sauce, mozzarella and meatballs).

The full stomach, we drove to the Louvre Museum ... The entry we have borrowed in the shape of a pyramid, which leads directly to the center of the Museum. We were impressed by the grandeur of these places and marvel at its architecture. Also, paintings and sculptures are of exceptional beauty. Among other things, the Mona Lisa is still as popular as we struggled to get close.
Meanwhile, some of our colleagues went to the Musée des Invalides. Many have enjoyed this visit as the Museum is divided into several separate issues and there is something for everyone.

The evening is free, everyone could do what he wanted, but it was strongly advised to prepare our bags for the big departure from last week.

Day 20, June 6, 2009: A first visit to Paris

8:30
We just wake us that we need to pack, because due to confusion with the hostel, we need to change rooms several times. Breakfast at the inn D'Artagnan. Cafeteria rather impressive seen his greatness.

9:30 Departure for the cemetery Pere Lachaise. The rain and chilly winds were present throughout the visit to give us a more melancholic atmosphere, perfect for visiting a cemetery. Our guide Thierry, most entertaining, led us on his journey very interesting and made us forget the rain and cold. The almost three hours in his company were sold in a snap so it was exciting and fun. We were very impressed by his extensive knowledge about all the people''living''the cemetery. We also learned that this famous cemetery stretches over 44 hectares and is the largest green space in Paris! We laughed our guide when we praised the 5 femurs of Pere Lachaise Cemetery (reminiscent of the 5 star restaurant), the most popular is the site where is Jim Morrison. In short, many things to learn and appreciate about this famous cemetery.
13h
A brief dinner at The Brewery roundabout near the cemetery of Père Lachaise. This restaurant has made people happy and unhappy about the quality of their meals. Still, it was a good time to fill a hollow in order to dry the rain always present.

15h
We went to the cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris for a visit a half-hour. One word to describe it: NICE! The architecture is sublime, the details are awesome and everything is still and will remain very popular and visited. Some of us have brought memories of the cathedral, including our beloved princess has finally found other pieces of money from Paris to add to his collection, and others lit lanterns for some of their relatives. Following this brief visit, we made accosted by a stranger wearing a Superman costume. This was ridiculous we sell contraceptives at a price of our choice. It was a challenge he had to do to celebrate her marriage expected soon. It is a tradition that the French have to bury their young girl or boy. I do not think that we, Quebecers will drop the holidays with friends for this kind of activity.
16h
After seeing all these beauties from France, we were astonished to see the national library of Paris in the state it is. Basically, it looks like a building still under construction or some kind of plant showing its pipes. In short, as Michael said, it's a monstrosity! Subsequently, we had free time to visit the various souvenir shops.

17h
We head to the Latin Quarter of Paris. En route, we noticed a huge amount of police, barricades and waved people around the cathedral. Michel decided to ask a journalist who was close to what was happening. We learned that Mr. Obama came to Paris the same evening, when the reporter said turned his camera to solicit feedback from Michael on his trip to Paris! We laughed! Who knows? Maybe our dear clutch has passed on French TV!
After this interview, we go to the Eiffel Tower which is much more impressive close up view. While part of the group climbing the 700 steps from the Eiffel Tower, others take the elevator and a certain princess lounging while waiting for us. The view from the top of the Eiffel Tower is just amazing and being able to locate many buildings in the city of Paris we amused.

10:00 p.m. For dinner, we returned to Sarah Sun, a small Italian restaurant near the hostel. We discussed with the cook who was very friendly. The restaurant staff were very nice, because we arrived they were preparing to close, but we were still served with a smile. We then returned to the inn well exhausted by this big day.

Day 19 (Friday, June 5, 2009): A Day at Versailles

When we travel the roads of France, sometimes stressful situations. Michel, who realizes that the needle is in the red essence, is precisely one of those situations. Panic then blew into the minivan (you talk to the princess). At this time Gilbert and Luce in the other minivan saw the princess waving from his window so exuberant, trying to understand it was time to refuel. Relief appeared on the faces when seen on a billboard the presence of a gas station. Ho! She was still 25 Km All ends well, they had enough fuel. We were in the direction of Versailles. So begin the chase.
Versailles, a city of dreams, vestiges of a colorful era where princesses and knights feasted at the court of kings. The former home of Marie Antoinette will be blown away our youth. Michel, who had seen other, remained speechless before the gilded arabesque which were restored in recent years. So we crossed the hall of mirrors, the rooms of the Queen and many other parts more impressive than the other.
Taking the paths of the gardens, our adventurers were blasted by the essence and beauty of the ancient gardens of Versailles. We walked a labyrinth of greenery and flowers where we watched hundreds of statues. And what about the fountains that dotted the lakes area and who worshiped in a big way, to Poseidon the God of ancient Greece. It is interesting to note the influence of Graeco-Roman sculptors in the garden of Versailles, because we had the honor of being welcomed by the Pantheon in full force. We will stop this description of Versailles in order to feel adequately all the emotions that the text you has surely passed. So we took the road to the City of Light, "Paris". It goes without saying that seeing the Eiffel Tower, cries of excitement reverberated in both cars. It was also at this time that we had to abandon our loyal coaches. Harnessed our bags, we faced a well less than sumptuous Versailles, the Paris Metro.

After a few minutes, Clutch Lamontagne managed to move without help from Carmen, to lead us to the hostel, the D'Artagnan. It was with surprise that students will find the techniques of "parallel parking" special cousins Parisians. So it was after an emotional day that the group could finally relax, because now they were in Paris, the city where the real adventure would begin.

Day 18: Thursday, June 4: A princess castles

Is what I told you I was sick of the'&%$#@$ of crusty bread? Yep! Another day begins with a delicious French breakfast! Do not worry ... I'm exaggerating slightly but I still miss my old jar of peanut butter!

Let's talk about something serious ... Today begins a great day! It is with great enthusiasm that the team prepares to take the path of the castles of the Loire! And who better to write a blog on such a day as the princess of the group! Yep, for the last time you'll enjoy reading my poetry and my crazy stories! So early morning we took the road to Chambord, a field that no one could describe other than by the word''beautiful''. This area strewn with wonders, arabesques and ramparts magical majestic simply breath of our young adventurers! Of course, many of us have "Garrocha" to pick up their currencies from Paris! (I went to 17!). I absolutely have to mention that I was totally stunned by the spiral staircase, designed by Leonardo Da Vinci, which stands in the center of the castle entrance.
Following this visit, we stopped our convoy at a charming restaurant called "La Pergola" and we sustentâmes with an affable and charming breakfast. Subsequently ... Cheverny. What to say, but what about! Despite an architecture much more modest and sober longer present, Cheverny castle charmed me most. This Castle is one which inspired Hergé, the creator of Tintin, to create "the Moulinsar" ancestral home of Captain Haddock! And if you love dogs, a pack of hunting dogs of Cheverny fill you with joy!
Finally, our journey brought us to the gates of Chenonceau, the castle of the ladies. This little paradise has been owned by many princesses, queens or baronesses, including Catherine de Medici. The architecture of Chenonceau leaves no one indifferent. This castle straddles the banks of a small stream and seems to float through the ages! Of course, this palace charmed me through apartments of many ladies who lived in the past. I could talk for hours and hours of the three castles that we visited, but your imagination could truly pay tribute to the beauty of the Loire we discovered that day ... We'll show you pictures!
As I write these words, I am surrounded by a festive atmosphere in the club the inn at Artagnan in Paris. I'm so unfortunately you abandon it to my small group because that otherwise I could go to the party this evening? I leave you and tells you so very soon!

Day 17 (June 3, 2009): A day at the farm

Hello! Hello!
The day begins with a very special breakfast for those with a shortened night. A funny happened: most of us are already at the table eating, when Jean-Matthieu arrived, having no place at the table where we were, he sat at another table with Lea. He said hello and looking in our direction, noticed that Leah was already seated at another table. It was wrong of Leah and uncomfortable, he moved his plateau while staying at the same table.
Following lunch, we went towards the organic cheese which was unknown to the Carmen (GPS). We were received by the husband of the cheese as it was in the hospital. This we did not discover that the production of its cheeses, but also its domain (breeder goats, pigeons, cows, a horse, geese, pigs and a donkey). This cheese factory 7 kinds of cheese from goat milk creamy farm. Despite the fact that many do not like the taste of goat cheese, they still enjoyed cheeses that we had the chance to taste (Saint-Maure Ash Bio, marbled goat, one with sea salt and creamy). This first visit was very appreciated by all, thanks to the tasting and the fact that we have been fortunate to receive several of these animals.
Our second visit (Pound Tournament, chocolate) was also nice but of shorter duration. Many of their specialties we were shown and explained such as barley sugar and prune stuffing. Some were lucky enough to pour as barley sugar is so good at the head chocolatier. Then we had the tasting best sellers: muscadine, stuffed prunes, barley sugar, nougat Tours. By the way, Robert, we have your muscadine!
At the end of the day, all were free to visit the old town, take small snacks or a beer on the terrace or just relax.

Day 16 (June 2, 2009) Vineyard, fortress and festival Michel

We started the day early because transportation of Clermont-Ferrand to the Loire was long: 5 hours with stops. We arrive at the winery Couly-Dutheil at 13.50, just in time for our appointment 14 hours. The visit is interesting and we learned a lot.
AOC. (AOC) Chinon includes many standards to follow:
  • Spacing
  • limited size of the vine
  • Yield: 50 hl per hectare
  • divide land into different name from the style Floor: quaffer, local wine, wine storage.
  • used for the red grape Cabernet Franc and the white Chenin Blanc

The wine produced at home Couly-Dutheil is of excellent quality. She won her first prize in 1927 and exists since 1921. It produces wine in refrigerated tanks in stainless steel because it builds on the development of taste through the grape and not the oak. We had an explanation of the process from A to Z. The explanations have allowed us to better understand the causes of various manufacturing defects that may be encountered on the finished product. The visit ended with a tasting of Cabernet red from different years: 2008, 2006 and 2005, a Cabernet rosé and a white Chenin. Many of these wines have won medals. We learned that when wine is served cold is the acidity that stands out most, if wine is at room temperature, it will sweetness comes out.

Subsequently, we visited the castle of Chinon, which has a superb view over the medieval town of that name and the Loire. Temperatures since the start of the trip, very lenient: beautiful blue sky and sunny. For some people the visit was more or less interesting for others it was the opposite. The fortress consisted of many stairs and few materials other than a fine exhibition of Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc) that went into this fortress.

Like most people wanted to eat, we spent some time in the city. We supped Restaurant "Côté Jardin", an idea of Peter Pan (Xavier). It was a real treat for all. We tried some specialty dishes such as coq au vin. We did a surprise to Michael "Clutch" Lamontagne for her birthday. A flare on his dessert and a beautiful French puppet as a gift that we gave once at the hostel. Another day ends with a flourish.

We had a request about the nicknames of some members of the group, here at last! The teasing

Day 15, 1st June 2009: Love the art

As we had to finish the blog, and no Internet connection is available to university, we move the visit Denise in the Confiturière afternoon. So we could go to McDonald's to use their WiFi and so you can read what we have done in recent days. At the same time, we enjoyed lunch at the American. However, there are some differences with McDonald's in Quebec. To begin, an egg Mc Muffin here called a Bacon Egg McMuffin, a McChicken McChicken is a tea ice is an ice tea, the McNuggets McNuggets are and so on. It is almost like the USA!

Meanwhile, part of the group took the opportunity to visit the Cathedral of Clermont-Ferrand, which is made from volcanic stone, giving it an almost black color. Also, some have a ride to town. However, playing bad luck in France, most shops are closed Monday morning, and the whole time we had. However, a shop was open and three lucky people could enjoy it.

Around 13:30, we are ready to go, but Carmen was "head in the ass" and we had to rely on our good old maps. When she regained her senses a bit, Michel was shunned and made to his head, which allowed us to continue on the highway, and not go on very twisty roads and avoid sore heart several who have forgotten their Gravol.

We arrived early at The Confiturière Denise. So we took a walk around the neighborhood and noted the Cave du Terroir which closed at 17h. So we can go after the visit because we had an appointment with Denise at 15h. The visit was really amazed. We thought going to a person who makes jam simply, but we soon noticed that she could teach us much about the secrets of flowers and fruits. Because it was inspired by recipes of her grandmother, and she loves her job, she did a lot of scientific research to understand the physicochemical phenomena that occur during the manufacture of jam. A very special advantage is that it uses all his senses to go look for the best quality of its raw materials. It will itself pick flowers on the mountain and the meticulously selected according to their needs to offer a unique taste of jams. It's hard to describe the intoxicating aromas and exquisite tastes of his creations, we invite you to go to his website at: http://www.confituriere.com/

Since time flies, it was already over 17h when we arrived at the Cave of the Soil. We were greeted warmly. We had to explain the production of St. Nectaire cheese and have tasted several cheeses from the region, including Cantal cheese and sweet bun Vol. Some have tasted the wine of the region.

visits ended, we returned to eat our last supper Flunch in Auvergne. In the evening, we must remake our luggage to go to the city of Tours in the Loire region. We hope not too much a headache for us all to get into the car because in addition to the black currant liqueur, we now have flavored water Volvic and dozens of jars of jam!

What Tyoe Of Leather Is Used On Cricket Balls?

Day 14, May 31: A day devoted to the ascent to heaven!

To wake us up, we had a good breakfast to prepare us for this day.

8:45
Departure to the Puy de Dome, which we thought was a little excursion in the mountains was a different adventure. The beaten path was steep, which made us discover for some new muscles and for others it was a good fitness walking. Despite the difficulty, everyone managed to get to the summit which was to 1486 meters. Once on top, famine in the stomach, we ate cheese sandwiches and croque-monsieur to fill our appetite. At the time of descent, a small group decided to make the current path and others took their time.

2:00 p.m. For this beautiful afternoon, sunny and hot, our group spent by the exploit of the Puy de Dome is believed rest went to the castle Murol. Alas, we had to cross a huge coast to reach this magnificent medieval building. After an arduous climb, we were treated to a guided tour of places that allowed us to learn more about the origin of certain words such as the Australian continent which comes from the southern hemisphere, modern technology and the geographical defenses of the time.
At the end of this visit we had the chance to witness the tests of skill on horseback. This visit allowed us to relax and learn more about the Middle Ages.

For dinner, some went to the restaurant and those who remained were tired at the residence. Everyone enjoyed a good night's sleep and well deserved.

Day 13, 30 May 2009: Regions Auvergne

Day 13, May 30, 2009: Regions Auvergne

The day began at 8:30 when Joel Magne (teacher at the Lycee Louis Pasteur Marmilhat) us joined the university. It was first shown the site of the Battle of Gergovie, where the Gauls defeated the Romans in the 10th century. We then went to visit a beef farm organic Saurier. The owner (Nicolas) is raising Salers heifers and explained the rules to be certified organic (food, slaughter rule for livestock ...)
We then mounted on top of a hill, he likes to identify as his office, where we could have a panoramic view.

Besse We left and we saw the caves of Jonah (medieval village built inside a mountain of rock known as troglodytes). We then stopped in Lake Pavin crater of an extinct volcano. Once Besse, Joel gave us a tour of the picturesque village of Besse. We have explained above techniques Architectural different times. Some of us took the opportunity to get a famous Laguiole knife.

Thereafter, we went to Saint-Nectaire to visit a cheese factory ancestral St. Nectaire. We first visited the caves that were dug Farges the 9th century and who served at the time, living for 15 to 20 people. It was after the French Revolution (1797) that these caves were used to store livestock. It was finally around 1955 that these caves were used as ripening rooms where there are naturally on the walls, spores of Mucor (cat hair) that are necessary for the cheese surface flora.
In 1991, they retained a cave for aging and the other 2 were transformed into a museum dedicated to the history of the region. Combined with this visit we visited the farm and factory production of St. Nectaire cheese.

the evening, we went to dinner in the old Clermont-Ferrand, close to the cathedral built of stone volcano, called stone of Volvic. We were able to enjoy typical dishes from the Auvergne: aligot, truffles, pounti ....

It was therefore a warm sunny day in the region of Auvergne with a very nice guide. Thank you Joel!
