Day 12 (May 29, 2009) Depart for Clermont-Ferrand
It tunes Malajube, Trio and other musical artists we took the road that led to the company Volvic in Auvergne. A trip lasting about 3 hours.
After a light dinner, we went to the source of Volvic, which we had to answer a questionnaire on various posters of information that was there. We have learned several things about the chain of Puys and the source of water Volvic uses. You should know that this chain of puys was formed by the eruption of 80 volcanoes. The source of Volvic water comes from rainwater that have been filtered in the different layers of minerals stacked on each other in an ancient valley over the various volcanic eruptions that occurred in the past. The valley floor is composed of granite that is waterproof, which helps retain rainwater at the bottom. Called this water, a source of natural mineral water. This water is drawn from 90 meters deep. During this visit we learned that this company has developed various products from this water source, such as water flavored with fruit, which should not be confused with the juice! We were even treated to a free tasting of different flavors available.
3:30 p.m. After this visit the company's theoretical Volvic, it was possible to visit the bottling plant of the water. We could see the various stages of manufacture of bottles used for bottled spring water. These bottles are made from PET that the company receives in the form of granules in tonnes. They melt the PET granules of blue food coloring. Then they are using a rod, a small tube with its neck. This tube is cooled about 8 hours before being reheated and blown to get a bottle of 50 cl or 1.5 liters. They average 35,000 bottles per hour. The plant operates 24 hours 24, which prevents water from stagnating in the various machines. Their biggest buyers are Germany, Britain and Japan. They end up number 1 in various countries for the quality of their water. So I guess you could say that their water is good!
18h
We arrive at the University of Clermont-Ferrand. We have single rooms and we are very happy because we can sleep in peace! Unfortunately, our plans were to make our own meals: lunch and dinner in a communal kitchen, but everything we have at our disposal are electric hot plates. We do not have stoves or pots for us to make big meals, so we must meet again for breakfast cereal and we will have dinner outside in cafeterias and restaurants. This represents additional costs to our budget.
20h
We went to dinner at a Flunch where vegetables and side dishes were the main meal at will! Afterwards we went shopping together for lunch on 4 days to come. On the way home, our princess started screaming in terror at the sight of a spider on the ceiling of the car. Four of us were terrified by this bloodthirsty beast as called our dear princess until green-juice rids us. A few minutes later, Shirley (Dominic) has decided to sing to the apple people on the other car and it has done so much laughter our of professional conduct, Gilbert, for the first time he has, in good Quebecois, rigged the car! So we found ourselves completely stopped at a green light! We laughed!
short, it was a day with a lot of driving to do, but we enjoyed the visit with Volvic and we had fun.
